Proyecto redactado en colaboración con el arquitecto Jaime Benavides. Consiste en la puesta al día y reforma integral de un organismo oficial en el País Vasco. El edificio original, construido en los años cuarenta con estructuras de hormigón pobremente armada, tuvo que ser completamente reforzado. Para ello se encamisaron los pilares con hormigón, se añadieron placas de acero a las vigas y se dispusieron capas de compresión en los forjados, con conectores a las viguetas existentes. El gran patio central se cubrió con una claraboya y se convirtió en el centro de la actividad pública del edificio, para lo que se reaprovecharon las cerchas existentes.
Se restauraron y mantuvieron los elementos ornamentales que se encontraban en los espacios representativos y se modernizaron y sustituyeron los espacios y acabados de oficinas e instalaciones. Se excavó también un sótano y se habilitaron las buhardillas existentes incrementándose notablemente la superficie últil original.
This project, designed in collaboration with the architect Jaime Benavides, comprised the renovation and rehabilitation of the head office of a government institution in the Basque Country. The original building, constructed in the forties with structures of poorly armed concrete, had to be reinforced entirely. To do so, we added concrete around the columns, steel plates to the beams and a reinforced concrete compression layer to the slabs, with connectors to the existing joists. The great central court was covered with a transom and transformed into the centre of the building’s public activity. The existing steel trusses were reused to that effect.
The ornamental elements of the official halls were restored and preserved. The offices and facilities were modernized or substituted. A basement was dug up, and the existing garrets were renovated, so the original surface was significantly increased.
